Education, Experience and Licensing
- Licensed and in good standing as an Apprentice Speech and Language (ASL) by the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department’s Speech Language Pathology, Audiology, and Hearing Aid Dispensing Practices Board
 - Enrolled in a graduate program focusing on Communication Disorders (exiting program will result in loss of ASL licensure and placement).
 - New Mexico Public Education Department License as a ASL (NM PED License)
 - School-based experience is preferred, but not required
 - Working knowledge of Federal and State laws governing Special Education and adherence to those laws
 - Prior knowledge or be willing to develop knowledge of the requirements set forth in the ASHA Rules and Regulations under SLPA as well as the codes and standards as stated with New Mexico Administrative Code (NMAC)
 - Prior knowledge or be willing to develop knowledge of the requirements set forth in Technical Evaluation and Assessment Manual (NM TEAM 2017) and the NM TEAM Dyslexia Manual
 
Duties/Responsibilities:
The ASL-SLP therapist at LSG is required (but not limited to) the following:
- ASL is compliant with Public Education Department requirements, Human Services, Medical Assistance Division (MAD) New Mexico Administrative Code (NMAC) rules, and other funding source requirements
 - Participate in sessions and/or meetings with SLP Supervisor and ASL meetings as scheduled by SLP Supervisor
 - Provide services to assigned caseloads
 - Collaborate and develop therapy and treatment plans specific to client needs including but not limited to speech language impairments
 - Deliver treatment for a variety of needs including articulation, fluency, voice, expressive, receptive, and social communication
 - Assist in the administration and scoring of speech screenings
 - Share objective information (e.g., accuracy in speech and language skills addressed, participation in treatment, response to treatment) regarding student, patient, and client performance to students, patients, clients, caregivers, families and other service providers without interpretation or recommendations as directed by the SLP
 - Developing and assisting both high and low-tech AAC materials for students, patients, and clients
 - Documents screenings, therapy plans, progress reports, classroom/home programs and other data, as required
